One route, with room to breathe

14 days in China: Beijing, Xi’an & Shanghai

14 days / 13 nights · Beijing 5 → Xi’an 3 → Shanghai 5 nights · 2 intercity moves.

D1 is arrival in China and D14 is departure: 13 hotel nights, not 14 full sightseeing days. International flight dates may extend your time away.

Arrive in Beijing, depart from Shanghai. For history and city neighborhoods at a flexible pace; fixed return flights or a nature-led trip need a different starting point.

Is this your kind of trip?

Who it suits

  • First-time independent visitors who enjoy history and city neighborhoods.
  • Travelers who prefer one main activity on sightseeing days and can protect spare time.

Choose a different starting point when…

  • A nature-led trip, a checklist of every famous sight, or travelers who want guaranteed bookings.
  • Fixed return flights through the same city, substantially less time, or travelers unable to manage the proposed physical demands without a separate access review.
  • Editorial direction: arrive in Beijing, depart from Shanghai; no international ticket is selected.
  • Three overnight bases and two intercity moves. No overnight train, personal date input or automatic rearrangement.
  • Palace, Wall and archaeology days remain conditional on actual reservations, access, weather and transport.

14 days, without filling every gap

These are editorial activity suggestions. Day numbers are not weekdays. Shift optional days around confirmed reservations; any shortened version needs its own calendar and transfer check.

Beijing · 5 nights

D1 · arrival · Your accommodation neighborhood

Arrive in Beijing and recover

Main: Reach your accommodation, eat and recover.

Plan this airport connection
Optional ideas, buffer and preparation

Optional: A short nearby walk only if arrival and energy allow.

Leave room: Keep the day free of timed attraction commitments.

  • Actual arrival airport, immigration and onward transport determine usable time.

If it does not work: Rest at the accommodation and move all sightseeing to another day.

Overnight: Beijing

D2 · activity · Forbidden City / central Beijing

Forbidden City — reservation-dependent

Main: Visit the Forbidden City only with the required reservation.

Confirm admission before committing to this day. Official booking steps and alternatives

Optional ideas, buffer and preparation

Optional: A short central-city walk if energy remains; no second admission is assumed.

Leave room: Keep time for approach, security, the visit, food and recovery.

  • D2 is not a weekday. Match the real date to the museum calendar.
  • Never interpret an email or payment attempt as a confirmed ticket.

If it does not work: Swap with D4 or D5 if the calendar and reservation permit; otherwise take the neighborhood day and accept missing the palace.

Overnight: Beijing

Visit preparation: Forbidden City / Palace Museum

D3 · activity · Mutianyu, Huairou

Mutianyu Great Wall

Main: Make Mutianyu the only major outing: arrange the return journey, enter with the required ticket and choose a manageable section of the restored Wall.

Optional ideas, buffer and preparation

Optional: A cable car can reduce the climb if its current access conditions fit. Admission, shuttle and cableway tickets have separate scope; cable car and slide tickets are not interchangeable.

Leave room: Treat travel, uphill effort and recovery as part of the day.

  • Check closure notices and the return pickup with the provider. The operator lists tourist coaches and a public-bus transfer in Huairou; neither is a hotel-to-Wall transfer.
  • Do not add another distant attraction after the Wall.

If it does not work: If weather closes the Wall or the return journey cannot be arranged, move D4 here. Use D5 for a replacement only after confirming fresh tickets and transport.

Overnight: Beijing

Visit preparation: Mutianyu Great Wall

D4 · activity · Wangfujing / Dongsi

Wangfujing and Dongsi lanes

Main: Explore Wangfujing’s shopping streets, then choose a small section of Dongsi lanes if energy allows. This changes scale from the palace and Wall to street life; use local transport between sections when needed.

Optional ideas, buffer and preparation

Optional: A meal or another short street section at your own pace.

Leave room: Keep breaks and allow the walk to end early.

  • Outdoor comfort depends on heat, rain and air conditions.
  • Seasonal official routes are inspiration, not a verified year-round schedule.

If it does not work: Stay near accommodation or move this flexible day around a confirmed museum reservation.

Overnight: Beijing

Visit preparation: Wangfujing and Dongsi city walk

D5 · activity · Temple of Heaven / southern central Beijing

Temple of Heaven or reservation buffer

Main: If the palace and Wall visits are settled, choose the Temple of Heaven for ceremonial architecture and parkland. Prioritize the Hall of Prayer for Good Harvests rather than trying to cover the whole park.

Optional ideas, buffer and preparation

Optional: Choose a shorter park walk instead of the building interiors, or keep this day for a rescheduled palace visit.

Leave room: Do not fill the buffer in advance. Pack and check tomorrow’s travel.

  • The park and enclosed sights have different tickets and opening conditions. The municipal guide describes Monday closure of enclosed sights, with statutory-holiday exceptions.
  • For building admission, check the Temple of Heaven Official Ticketing Platform; the municipal guide describes passport booking. Keep the correct ticket and original document.

If it does not work: Rest and prepare for the transfer; a missed priority is allowed to remain missed.

Overnight: Beijing

Visit preparation: Temple of Heaven

Xi’an · 3 nights

D6 · transfer · Accommodation → departure station → Xi’an accommodation

Train from Beijing to Xi’an

Main: Complete the first intercity transfer after checking the exact service.

Optional ideas, buffer and preparation

Optional: A meal close to the new accommodation.

Leave room: Reserve the whole day for movement, check-in and recovery.

  • The 12306 example is a dated service check, not a booking or a guarantee for your travel date. Account for the early hotel departure if choosing that example.
  • Do not book a fixed arrival-afternoon attraction.

If it does not work: If the service fails, revise onward nights and D7 before making a replacement commitment.

Overnight: Xi’an

D7 · activity · Lintong / Terracotta Army

Terracotta Army — reservation-dependent

Main: Give the Terracotta Army exhibition pits the main visiting block. Travel to Lintong only after finding the correct date and visitor in the museum’s booking record.

Optional ideas, buffer and preparation

Optional: Lishan Garden is a separate museum area. Decide whether to use the museum shuttle after the pits, allowing time for that visit and the return to Xi’an.

Leave room: Keep local transfers, queues, food and rest outside the main visit.

  • Museum and archaeological park are distinct parts of the visit.
  • Bring the original valid booking ID; check current operator instructions.

If it does not work: If admission fails, use the urban day; do not promise a next-day ticket or compress this into transfer day.

Overnight: Xi’an

Visit preparation: Emperor Qinshihuang's Mausoleum Site Museum

D8 · activity · Walled-city core

Xi’an City Wall and old-city streets

Main: Choose a short City Wall section if the current gate and ticket fit; otherwise explore the Bell Tower and Drum Tower surroundings at street level. This adds an urban view after the Lintong archaeology day.

Optional ideas, buffer and preparation

Optional: One meal around the old-city streets, or the exterior tower views. Entry inside either tower is a separate ticket decision.

Leave room: Avoid a full perimeter or several distant heritage sites as a default.

  • Current City Wall opening, ticket and entry arrangements need checking on the linked sight page.
  • No extra museum reservation is included.

If it does not work: Skip the elevated wall if heat, rain or physical effort is unsuitable; rest or use a short street-level visit.

Overnight: Xi’an

Visit preparation: Xi’an City Wall

Shanghai · 5 nights

D9 · transfer · Accommodation → chosen rail/air gateway → Shanghai accommodation

Train from Xi’an to Shanghai

Main: Take a confirmed daytime train to Shanghai Hongqiao, allowing for the long rail segment and both local transfers. Check in and eat near the accommodation.

Optional ideas, buffer and preparation

Optional: Food near the accommodation after check-in.

Leave room: Keep arrival evening free of time-critical plans.

  • Recheck the actual date and exact stations; do not count the station-to-station rail duration as the whole move. Any flight substitution needs its own check.

If it does not work: Reassess D10 and accommodation after disruption. Do not chain an international departure onto this leg.

Overnight: Shanghai

D10 · activity · The Bund / East Zhongshan No. 1 Road

The Bund waterfront

Main: Walk a manageable stretch of the Bund, looking at the historic riverfront buildings and the Pudong skyline across the river. Keep it a Puxi visit rather than crossing repeatedly.

Optional ideas, buffer and preparation

Optional: One nearby street or cafe break rather than multiple distant districts.

Leave room: Leave time for weather, crowds and sitting down.

  • A city overview is not proof of an accessible or uninterrupted walking route.

If it does not work: Use a rest period and shift the walk to a better weather window.

Overnight: Shanghai

Visit preparation: The Bund

D11 · activity · Shanghai Museum East, Pudong

Shanghai Museum East

Main: Consider the East museum’s general galleries after checking the branch calendar.

Optional ideas, buffer and preparation

Optional: A separate exhibition only if its conditions and your remaining energy fit.

Leave room: Keep time for the cross-city trip, security and breaks.

  • Tuesday closure has holiday exceptions. Individual general entry and separately reserved experiences are different.

If it does not work: Swap with a flexible Shanghai day or rest if the branch is closed or capacity is restricted.

Overnight: Shanghai

Visit preparation: Shanghai Museum East

D12 · activity · Wukang Road / Xuhui

Wukang Road or optional Suzhou return

Main: Choose Wukang Road for a different view of Shanghai: building exteriors, residential lanes and a cafe break. Start with the Wukang Mansion end and stop when you have had enough; interior visits are not assumed.

Optional ideas, buffer and preparation

Optional: If gardens and canals matter more, consider replacing this day with a Suzhou return outing using the comparison below. It adds two rail journeys and local transfers; keep the Shanghai room.

Leave room: Keep the same overnight city and room.

  • Keep residential entrances clear; an interesting facade does not imply public access.
  • For a Suzhou replacement, check both train directions and the chosen attraction before committing. The default table still stays in Shanghai.

If it does not work: Stay close to accommodation if conditions or energy change.

Overnight: Shanghai

Visit preparation: Wukang Road and the former French Concession

D13 · activity · Shanghai / accommodation neighborhood

Keep a Shanghai departure buffer

Main: Use People’s Square for a short final city walk if everything is arranged, or revisit the Bund if earlier weather spoiled it. Leave the second part of the day for packing and the airport plan.

Optional ideas, buffer and preparation

Optional: A meal near the accommodation. The People’s Square museum is a different branch from D11; no second museum visit is included.

Leave room: Protect a buffer rather than risking a must-do intercity return.

  • PVG and SHA are distinct airports. Match the actual flight and terminal.

If it does not work: Rest and resolve the airport plan with the accommodation or transport provider.

Overnight: Shanghai

D14 · departure · Your actual departure airport

Depart from Shanghai

Main: Travel to the confirmed airport and depart.

Plan this airport connection
Optional ideas, buffer and preparation

Optional: No sightseeing commitment.

Leave room: Use the airline’s check-in conditions plus current local travel and contingency.

  • This day includes no hotel night. Additional nights change the route totals.
  • The PVG guide is not evidence for SHA or the reverse direction.

If it does not work: If departure changes, contact the airline and reassess entry/stay conditions using official help.

Overnight: No overnight stay

Why these nights—and where to research a stay

Area comparisons are editorial proposals, with evidence limits below. They are not official hotel recommendations, booking results or promises about safety and accessibility.

Beijing: 5 nights

An arrival day, separate palace and Great Wall priorities, a neighborhood day and a genuinely spare day. Five nights protect recovery and a chance to move a reservation.

One fewer night: With one fewer night, remove the spare activity day; do not squeeze the Wall and palace into one day. A failed reservation then has less recovery space.

One more night: With a sixth night, keep D5 free for a moved palace booking and add the Temple of Heaven as a separate visit. Choose its ceremonial buildings or park walk according to the ticket and opening notice; extra time need not mean another out-of-city excursion.

Wangfujing / Dongsi 王府井 / 东四

Start your accommodation research in Wangfujing / Dongsi for D2 palace context and D4 street exploration across this five-night stay. This is an editorial fit judgment, not a verified hotel-to-sight journey.

The tradeoff: Compare the exact address and connections. It does not remove the Huairou journey or station transfer, and a busy commercial street may not suit a quiet stay.

Qianmen 前门

Consider Qianmen instead when the southern historic core and the optional D5 Temple of Heaven matter more to you than the D4 lanes. Compare exact hotel addresses before deciding.

The tradeoff: The Wall is still a separate excursion; verify baggage, walking access and actual rail/airport journey rather than calling every hotel central.

Xi’an: 3 nights

One transfer day, one protected archaeology day and one flexible urban day. This deliberately omits a second major museum booking rather than promising all of Xi’an.

One fewer night: Two nights would leave only one full local day. Keep the archaeology priority or choose the urban experience; do not retain both full days on paper.

One more night: An extra night creates space to research Shaanxi History Museum as a separate, reservation-dependent visit; it is not already booked or included.

Bell Tower / South Gate 钟楼 / 南门

Start with Bell Tower / South Gate for D8 old-city streets and a limited City Wall visit. This three-night route has one urban day and a separate Lintong outing; a station-side stay is not automatically more useful. The municipal guide places the Bell Tower at the meeting of the central avenues.

The tradeoff: The Bell Tower and South Gate are an area to compare, not one hotel location. Check the exact address and separate journeys to Xi’an North and Lintong; a street-facing room may not suit a quiet stay.

Giant Wild Goose Pagoda / Grand Tang Mall 大雁塔 / 大唐不夜城

Consider Giant Wild Goose Pagoda / Grand Tang Mall instead if you plan to substitute its pedestrian street and pagoda setting for more of the D8 old-city time. The city describes the street at the foot of the pagoda; this is an interest-led alternative.

The tradeoff: For this archaeology-and-old-city route, it adds movement back to the wall area and still requires a separate Lintong journey. Evening street activity is a reason to visit, not a promise of a quiet hotel.

Shanghai: 5 nights

A transfer day, two different city themes and two flexible days before departure. Staying in Shanghai avoids a compulsory hotel move for an optional excursion.

One fewer night: Remove a flexible city day first. Keep an adequate buffer before international departure; never count D14 as another sightseeing day.

One more night: Deepen an existing neighborhood interest or research a separate excursion; new intercity transport and reservations need their own checks.

People’s Square 人民广场

Start with People’s Square for this five-night route: compare a Puxi address for the D10 Bund and D12 Wukang Road themes, accepting a separate journey to the East museum on D11. This is an editorial comparison across the stay, not a walking or travel-time guarantee.

The tradeoff: Museum East is a different branch in Pudong. Central location is not a promise of a fast airport journey or quiet room.

Museum East / Century Avenue area 上海博物馆东馆 / 世纪大道一带

Consider Museum East / Century Avenue only when you want to give Pudong more of your Shanghai time. One D11 museum visit alone is not a reason to base all five nights here; compare the additional journeys for D10, D12 and your actual departure airport.

The tradeoff: The Bund and other Puxi experiences require separate movement. A museum address does not establish hotel availability or transfer convenience.

Plan the whole move

The dated 12306 examples below show station-to-station rail time. Add all six parts of the move; no fare, seat availability or door-to-door total is guaranteed.

The six parts of each intercity move
  1. Accommodation to exact departure station or airport: verify local access and baggage handling
  2. Identity, security, check-in and waiting: follow the operator’s current instructions
  3. Main train or flight: check the dated service and issued order
  4. Arrival terminal exit and local connection: allow for the actual endpoint
  5. Travel to accommodation and check-in: confirm the address and conditions
  6. Food, recovery and disruption buffer: do not count this as a full sightseeing day

D6: Beijing → Xi’an

Daytime rail: Beijing West (北京西) → Xi’an North (西安北). Xi’an station (西安站) is a different place; check the station on the issued ticket.

Dated reference service

Representative 12306 result for 11 September 2026, read on 10 September: G321, 07:00–11:20, 4 hours 20 minutes station to station. This is dated context, not the train you must take or a door-to-door estimate. An early train needs a workable hotel-to-station journey; choose a later dated service if that is better.

Search the exact stations on official Railway 12306 — English

Use the From and To stations above in that direction and enter your own departure date. Confirm the full station names and arrival date in the results.

If disrupted: Move the archaeology visit only if a new reservation is obtained. Reconcile lost nights before continuing.

Check the foreign-passport rail booking process

D9: Xi’an → Shanghai

Daytime rail: Xi’an North (西安北) → Shanghai Hongqiao railway station (上海虹桥站). The station and airport terminal are not interchangeable.

Dated reference service

Representative 12306 result for 11 September 2026, read on 10 September: G1922, 10:35–18:02, 7 hours 27 minutes station to station. Treat this as a substantial travel day, with no fixed evening sight. If considering a flight instead, compare its actual airport journeys, baggage terms and waiting; no flight has been selected or verified here.

Search the exact stations on official Railway 12306 — English

Use the From and To stations above in that direction and enter your own departure date. Confirm the full station names and arrival date in the results.

If disrupted: Keep Shanghai flexible and retain the departure buffer; do not treat a search or waitlist request as confirmed travel.

Connect the first and last days

Editorial preparation guidance · human fact review pending. These are preparation steps, not current timetables or booked transfers.

D1: Beijing airport to your accommodation

Read the airport code and terminal on your actual flight: PEK is Beijing Capital (北京首都国际机场); PKX is Beijing Daxing (北京大兴国际机场). No flight means no airport selected.

  • PEK: use the Capital airport transport page to compare the Capital Airport Express, airport bus and official taxi pickup for your terminal. Check the onward connection from the city station to your hotel.
  • PKX: use the city’s PKX Airport to City guide to compare airport express, bus and car services. The Beijing Service counter can assist with ticket purchase; confirm the service that reaches your hotel area and its operating hours for your arrival.

The hotel connection: Map the final station or drop-off to the hotel’s actual entrance, including luggage and access needs. Do not substitute an area name for the hotel address.

Save before travel: Save the hotel’s actual English and Chinese name/address, terminal, onward connection and the official help page offline. Keep D1 free of timed visits.

Ready when: You can identify your arrival airport, a service running after baggage collection, its city connection and the final hotel leg.

If it fails: If arrival is late or a connection fails, consult the airport’s staffed information counter or official transport/help page for an available taxi, bus or other permitted service. Confirm the pickup, destination and cost before accepting it; no overnight availability is assumed.

D14: Shanghai accommodation to your departure airport

Read the flight’s departure airport and terminal: PVG is Shanghai Pudong (上海浦东国际机场); SHA is Shanghai Hongqiao (上海虹桥国际机场). Shanghai Hongqiao railway station is not an airport terminal.

  • PVG: open the Pudong operator page and choose Transportation and Departures. Compare metro, bus or taxi; if considering Maglev or Airport Link, include the separate journey to its boarding station.
  • SHA: use the Hongqiao operator page and the actual terminal. Compare metro, bus or taxi from your hotel; do not reuse PVG instructions or assume the railway arrival on D9 establishes the airport connection.

The hotel connection: Work backward from your airline’s check-in and bag-drop deadline, allowing for hotel checkout, the first local connection, waiting, terminal access and security. Check city-to-airport services, not the reverse direction.

Save before travel: Save the airport code, terminal, airline requirements, hotel pickup point, chosen departure service and a backup contact from the official airport site.

Ready when: Your hotel departure time and every connection fit the actual flight and terminal, with room for disruption. A downloaded map alone is not a departure plan.

If it fails: For an early flight or unavailable connection, arrange and confirm a permitted taxi or transfer with your accommodation/provider in advance. If it fails, contact the airport and airline through their official pages. Do not use an airport-to-city last-service time to justify departure.

Book in dependency order

A reservation request, payment attempt or checklist tick is not confirmation. Submit identity and payment details only to the appropriate provider, never to this itinerary page.

Entry and international endpoints

Check the entry path for the passport you will use, then align arrival in Beijing and departure from Shanghai. The route length does not establish eligibility.

What to confirm: You have checked your own conditions with the relevant official sources; the site has not issued an entry decision.

If unsuccessful: Resolve eligibility and endpoints before non-refundable commitments; use official authority or airline channels.

Open entry and international endpoints guidance

Palace reservation

Start with the official ticket site linked from the museum’s English visit page. Its public notice lists passports, and its sign-in information describes email verification. Enter identity details only on the official channel; this site does not collect passports or orders.

What to confirm: Check the reservation result in the official channel for the correct visitor, date and admission. A request or bank debit alone is not an entry confirmation. Carry the valid identification used for booking.

If unsuccessful: If the result is unclear, use the ticketing help on the museum’s English visit page before trying again. Keep Wangfujing or Dongsi street exploration as an alternative, and omit the palace if admission is unavailable. In this sample itinerary, swap D2 with D4 or D5 only after confirming admission for the new date.

Open palace reservation guidance

Mutianyu visit and return

Start from the scenic area’s official ticket page. Choose admission and any separate lift or shuttle product deliberately, then confirm a round-trip coach or both public-bus connections.

What to confirm: Check the dated booking record and original passport requirement, plus a separate return pickup or service arrangement. A Wall ticket alone does not include the journey from Beijing.

If unsuccessful: If access or return arrangements fail, use the Wangfujing/Dongsi day. Do not improvise around a last departure.

Open mutianyu visit and return guidance

Archaeology reservation

Open the museum’s visitor guide and follow Online Reservation, or use the official WeChat accounts 秦始皇帝陵博物院 or 兵马俑票务在线. Choose the visit date and enter passport details only in that official channel.

What to confirm: In the same channel, open My Orders (我的订单) / Order Inquiry and confirm the matching visitor, date and completed admission order. Carry the original booking ID; a bank debit alone is not admission confirmation.

If unsuccessful: Check the original order and operator help before paying again. Keep the city day as a fallback.

Open archaeology reservation guidance

Rail and accommodation together

Compare complete transfer components, exact stations and accommodation cancellation conditions. Follow the actual operator sales window.

What to confirm: Check an issued, dated rail order and a separate accommodation confirmation for each night.

If unsuccessful: No seats, failed identity checks, unpaid orders and waitlists need different next steps in the rail guide; recheck the night allocation after changes.

Open rail and accommodation together guidance

Payment and communication preparation

Use the existing payment guide to prepare a primary method and independent backup. Check with your own mobile provider how you will receive account verification messages.

What to confirm: Distinguish account setup from a completed payment; use the guide’s provider-specific status checks.

If unsuccessful: If a debit or merchant result is unclear, check the original order and provider before repeating payment. This site never requests a payment code or ID.

Open payment and communication preparation guidance

Beijing arrival and Shanghai departure

Use the direction-specific airport modules for D1 and D14. Identify the airport from your flight, then plan both the local connection and the hotel leg.

What to confirm: An actual airport/terminal and transport plan matches your confirmed flight, with a contingency.

If unsuccessful: Do not reverse an airport-to-city last-service time or apply the PVG guide to SHA. Use the airport/airline’s current instructions.

What to cut, keep or rethink

Two fewer days

First consider removing the Beijing Temple of Heaven/buffer day (D5) and Wukang Road/optional Suzhou day (D12). Keep the palace, Wall, archaeology and two Shanghai themes, but lose recovery and reservation flexibility. The resulting 4 + 3 + 4 = 11 nights imply 12 days. These are adjustment instructions, not a complete shortened timetable: re-number days, move both intercity tickets and reconcile all dates before booking.

Keep the cities, add breathing room

Add a night only with a clear purpose, such as more recovery or a separately researched museum. Recount nights and re-date onward tickets; no booking or calendar updates automatically.

Less history or fewer moves

Keep the same Shanghai room for D9–D14 and choose Wukang Road if another transfer feels tiring. A Suzhou day visit avoids another check-in but adds a full return journey. An overnight there replaces a Shanghai night and adds luggage handling and a return before departure; it is not added to this table. For fewer than two main moves, dropping Xi’an creates a new Beijing–Shanghai transfer needing its own evidence and calendar.

Suzhou from Shanghai: a return visit or an overnight?

An optional replacement for D12, not an extra day already included. The default route keeps five nights in Shanghai. Suzhou offers classical-garden and canal settings; headline train minutes omit hotel access, waiting and the local journey.

Return to your Shanghai room

Choose when: You want one focused Suzhou experience and value avoiding packing and another check-in. Research Pingjiang Road, adding one garden only if admission and the return train fit.

The tradeoff: Both rail journeys happen the same day, plus hotel-to-station and station-to-sight travel in each direction. Leave luggage in the room and accept missing a leisurely Suzhou evening.

Next step: Search both directions in 12306, confirm each named station and check the chosen sight. Suzhou Station (苏州站) and Suzhou North (苏州北站) are different addresses. Keep a return contingency and retain D13 in Shanghai.

Read the related city guide

Replace a Shanghai night with Suzhou

Choose when: A canal-side evening and another unhurried local morning matter more than keeping one room, and you accept another hotel change.

The tradeoff: Check out, move luggage, arrange storage or check-in and travel onward again. With a Shanghai departure you still need to return; going onward to Hangzhou changes the endpoint assumption. A quiet evening is not guaranteed.

Next step: Reconcile hotel nights, both travel dates, baggage arrangements and current garden/museum admission. The existing Jiangnan combination gives context, not an automatically approved variant.

Read the related city combination

Our editorial choice: Keep the Shanghai base when avoiding hotel changes is the priority. Choose an overnight only when Suzhou’s evening and morning are worth the extra packing and return leg. If gardens and canals are not priorities, keep Wukang Road or rest: there is no need to add a fourth city.

Build a budget from actual quotes

Costing basis and exclusions
  • Working basis: two adults sharing one private room in ordinary midrange accommodation. Record supplier inputs in CNY. This is a costing structure, not a quote or price range; change occupancy and standard if your party differs.
  • Accommodation: sum actual room-night quotes for Beijing 5, Xi’an 3 and Shanghai 5 nights. One room × 13 nights; record taxes, room type and cancellation terms. A Suzhou overnight changes this allocation.
  • Meals: your daily allowance per person × 2 people × 14 days, adjusting arrival and departure meals. Admission is per visit per person, not per day; optional exhibitions are separate.
  • Intercity transport: 2 legs × 2 passengers, plus both-end station or airport transfers. Add city transport and Beijing airport arrival / Shanghai airport departure. Share per-vehicle taxi costs; do not multiply again by headcount.
  • List connectivity, travel insurance, optional activities and a disruption reserve separately. International flights, visa/document fees, shopping and currency-conversion costs are excluded from the ground-cost subtotal unless explicitly added.
  • Use dated supplier prices and record the exchange-rate date when converting your own budget. No live availability, hotel ranking, affiliate ordering or precise total is supplied.

Your own estimates in CNY, not site prices. The site does not upload or save your entries, or add them to the public route export. You can copy them to your own clipboard below. Reloading clears these inputs.

Equal adult costs are a budgeting assumption. Check room capacity, children’s prices, taxes and cancellation terms with each supplier. Meals use all 14 days; adjust your allowance for arrival and departure.
